One Antenna, Two-Way:StarBand uses a single satellite dish antenna for receiving AND for sending information—no telephone connection is needed. Plus, the StarBand antenna can accommodate both the Internet and EchoStar's DISH Network® satellite TV programming. StarBand service can bring the Internet and hundreds of channels of television into your home, all through one dish antenna.

High-Speed:StarBand downloads at speeds up to ten times faster than dial-up service. Speeds will often reach 500 kbps with targeted peak-time speeds in excess of 150 kbps. Current upload speeds range between 40 and 60 kbps. Peak time is weekday evenings.
I'm, personally, getting 900 meg - 1.1 gig download & 70-100k upload speeds on my Residential System.
Nationwide Availability:StarBand service is available virtually everywhere in the continental United States and Alaska, so you control your Internet access options regardless of how far away you live from the nearest telephone switch or cable node. Service to Hawaii and Puerto Rico will be coming soon.
A Future of Multicast Capability:As a StarBand subscriber you will have the opportunity to be part of a unique satellite multicast network. Can you tell me more about StarBand Small Office VPN performance? In many cases, StarBand will work with VPN systems. However, the speeds you experience when using VPN will probably be more like dial-up than the normal speeds you are use to with your StarBand system. Read on for more information.VPN clients use many different secure “protocols” to transmit and receive information. The most popular of these is known as IPSec. VPN clients using IPSec will perform at dial-up speeds (in the range of 20 kbps up and 50 kbps down) across a satellite connection. StarBand cannot increase the performance you receive via an IPSec based VPN client. There are VPN solutions available that utilize protocols other than IPSec. The most popular alternative protocol is called SSL (Secure Socket Layers). SSL based clients achieve the best performance over satellite, though speeds across any VPN connection are noticeably slower than your typical StarBand connection speeds. Two popular SSL based VPN systems are V-ONE, and Neoteris. We have tested both of these products, and they both worked well. Please note that for a VPN solution to work both your client and the network to which you are connecting must be using the same system. You will not be able to connect to an IPSec based Cisco VPN network using SSL based V-ONE software, for example. Note also that V-ONE and Neoteris are third party VPN solutions. As such, support for their products would be handled directly by V-ONE or Neoteris tech support. Using a VPN client with your StarBand Model 360 system may require that the client be installed on a computer networked with your StarBand host computer, or on a computer directly connected to the StarBand modem. StarBand customers using the StarBand 484 can install their VPN client on any computer directly connected to the modem. VPN at dial-up speed (using Cisco, Microsoft PPTP, or Nortel VPN). Non-IP Sec packages such as V-ONE® and Neoteris generally at faster speeds.
Can I network my StarBand Small Office system?Absolutely! With the StarBand 484 system, the modem has a built-in 4-port router, making it simple to network in a snap. You can simply plug each of your PCs into the back of the StarBand 484 satellite modem. No additional Internet sharing software is needed.
